How to become more attractive to others

Many individuals struggle with feeling unattractive and being unconfident in their appearance. This is in no small part due to the media, and our uncontrollable need to compare ourselves with others.

This can affect our self-esteem and relationships with others, leading to negative impacts on our personal and professional lives.

That’s why learning how to become more attractive can be a valuable tool to boost our confidence in addition to improving our overall well-being.

They say that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Nevertheless, we do know that there are objective factors such as symmetry, being in shape, and being tall among many others that are typically considered attractive traits by most.

So how to appear more attractive to those around us? The following healthy lifestyle examples and tips to improve your life can help you with that.

The following tips can help you to enhance your appearance and increase your confidence, which in turn can make you more appealing as well:

  1. Practice good hygiene

One of the easiest ways to become more beautiful is to keep up good personal hygiene. Nobody wants to go on a date or get it on with someone smelly or dirty.

Maintaining good hygiene by taking regular showers, brushing your teeth, and wearing clean clothes can make a big difference in how you feel and how others perceive you. That’s why you should practice these tips to stay clean:

    Wash your hands regularly.

This is especially important before eating, after using the bathroom, and after being in public places. Use soap and warm water and scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds to get rid of possible germs. We wouldn’t want to infect ourselves, or anyone else.

    Shower or bathe daily.

Regular bathing or showering helps remove dirt, sweat, and bacteria from your skin. Not to mention that you’ll smell way better!

Brush your teeth twice a day.

Brushing your teeth helps remove plaque and prevents bad breath. Flossing can also help remove those annoying food particles that get stuck between your teeth.

    Clean your nails.

Keep your nails trimmed and clean to prevent the buildup of dirt and bacteria.

    Use deodorant or antiperspirant.

Both these products can help control body odor and prevent excessive sweating. Nobody likes someone smelly, so be mindful to use deodorant if you tend to sweat a lot.

    Wash your clothes regularly.

Wearing clean clothes helps to prevent the buildup of bacteria and bad odors. Not to mention that it’s not a pretty sight when you’re walking around with dirty clothes with stains all over the place.

Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.

Use a tissue or the inside of your elbow to cover your mouth and nose to prevent the spread of germs.

  2. Dress well

One of the easiest things we can influence to become beautiful is the way we decide to dress ourselves.

Dressing well includes wearing clothes that fit well and suit your body type. Dressing in a way that makes you feel comfortable and confident can help you to appear more attractive to others.

The following tips can help you to dress well:

Know your body type and what types of clothes flatter your figure.

Invest in high-quality basics such as a well-fitted pair of jeans, a tailored blazer, and classic t-shirts.

Add accessories such as scarves, hats, or jewelry.

This elevates a simple outfit and can make you stand out from the crowd.

Make sure your clothes fit properly.

Ill-fitting clothes can make you look sloppy or unprofessional.

    Don’t be afraid of color.

Adding pops of color to your outfit can make it more fun and make you seem more interesting.

    Dress for the occasion.

Consider the occasion and dress accordingly. You don’t go to a funeral wearing your fancy party clothes, as this will leave a poor taste in most people’s mouths.

Keep your clothes clean and well-maintained.

Washing and ironing your clothes regularly is something everyone should do. Clothes that are wrinkled, stained, or have holes in them can make you look unkempt.

  3. Work on your posture

You can instantly look more pretty and appealing to others when you’ve got good posture.

Standing up straight with your shoulders back can make you appear more self-assured, and like you’re in charge of the situation.

Practice the following tips to build a better posture:

    Be aware of your posture.

You can’t fix something when you don’t realize it’s broken. And that’s why the first step towards improving your posture is to be aware of how you’re standing and sitting.

Check in with yourself throughout the day to become aware of bad habits that you’ve adopted, and to make sure you’re not slouching or hunching over to keep you from adopting poor postural control.

    Stand up straight.

When standing, keep your feet shoulder-width apart and distribute your weight evenly on both feet. Pull your shoulders back and down, and engage your core muscles.

    Sit properly.

Make sure your feet are flat on the ground and your knees are at a 90-degree angle while sitting. Keep your shoulders back and down, and don’t slouch forward. Don’t be afraid to take space. When you make yourself smaller to take less space, you’ll appear weak and uncertain.

    Adjust your workspace.

If you sit at a desk for long periods, whether it’s at home, or work, then you should make sure that your chair and desk are at the right height. Adjust your computer monitor so that the top of the screen is at, or slightly below eye level to avoid having to look up, or down all the time.

    Exercise regularly.

Regular exercise can help strengthen the muscles that are required to support a good posture. Focus on exercises that work your back, core, and leg muscles. This will give you the capacity to stand tall in addition to appearing taller.

    Stretch.

Tight muscles can contribute to poor posture. This is an increasingly prevalent issue in modern times since a lot of us are in front of a screen in one way, shape, or form for long periods. Take breaks throughout the day to stretch your neck, shoulders, and back to prevent your muscles from shortening. Not to mention that taking breaks is healthy as well.

  4. Appearing taller

Image of a woman's feet wearing high heels.

Height is one of the most helpful physical traits to possess to look more attractive as a man. Tallness does indeed influence a woman’s sexual interest in men. But unfortunately, we can’t make ourselves taller just yet. But what we can do is make ourselves appear taller.

Practice these things to make you appear taller:

Shoes with heels can make you appear bigger.

Consider wearing shoes with a slight heel or platform, but avoid shoes with thick soles that can make your feet look bulky. Don’t go overboard either. Walking funny because your heels or platforms are too high is a silly look as well, and won’t make you appear more desirable.

Clothes that make you look shorter.

Don’t wear clothing that makes you appear shorter or overly bulky. This includes baggy clothes, oversized jackets, and clothes that cut off at the ankle. That’s why you should avoid these types of clothes if you want to appear taller.

    Consider getting a haircut.

Shorter haircuts can make your neck look longer and create the illusion of height. But at the same time, longer haircuts, or having spiked hair can make you appear taller too.

  5. Stay fit and healthy

Image of a fit woman holding a yoga pose at the beach.

If you want to appear more attractive as a woman, and as a man as well, then you’ve got to remain fit.

You shouldn’t just do it to look more attractive, but for your health as well. We know that being in good physical shape and having a healthy body weight are critical to age gracefully, and to remain in condition.

Exercise regularly and eat a balanced, healthy diet to maintain a good body weight and to improve your overall health. This can help you feel more confident and attractive.

Incorporate the following habits to stay fit:

    Exercise regularly.

Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise for at least 3 days of the week. This can include walking, jogging, biking, swimming, or any other form of aerobic exercise that you enjoy.

    Strength training.

Incorporate strength training exercises into your routine to build muscle, improve bone density, and increase your metabolism. Think of things such as body weight exercises or lifting weights depending on your preference.

    Eat a clean diet.

You should make it a point to eat whole, nutrient-dense foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Limit processed and sugary foods as these will make you gain weight.

    Stay hydrated.

The body is mostly made up of water. That’s why it’s essential to drink enough fluids to keep our natural processes going smoothly without interruptions.

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated and functioning properly.

    Get enough sleep.

People recharge their batteries while resting, and especially while sleeping. No matter who you are, you need enough sleep to function properly. If you don’t, you’ll have trouble concentrating, experience mood swings, and you might even suffer from brain fog.

Aim for 8–9 hours of preferably uninterrupted sleep each night to support overall health and fitness.

    Reduce stress.

Chronic stress can have negative effects on your health. Find ways to manage stress such as meditation, yoga, or spending time in nature.

    Limit alcohol.

Alcohol is a drug that’s typically tolerated by society, but that doesn’t make it any less dangerous. It makes it even more risky since it’s normalized, and oftentimes even encouraged.

If you do drink alcohol, try to limit or eliminate that habit to support overall health.

  6. Practice good communication skills

Image describing what good communication skills entail.

Every single one of us knows at least one person who isn’t necessarily pretty, yet is always deemed attractive by the opposite sex because they’re such effective communicators.

Being able to listen and communicate effectively can make you appear more attractive to others.

Practice these habits to improve the way you communicate with those around you:

    Listen actively.

Good communication starts with being a good listener. Pay attention to what the other person is saying, ask clarifying questions, and avoid interrupting them while speaking.

Everyone loves some attention, and that is exactly what active listening provides. If speaking is silver, then listening is gold.

    Speak clearly and confidently.

When you are speaking, be clear and concise. Avoid using jargon or overly complicated language. Speak with confidence all the while maintaining good eye contact.

Try to avoid filler words and stuttering as much as possible since they’ll make you appear nervous and timid.

    Use nonverbal communication.

Nonverbal communication, such as body language and facial expressions conveys a lot of information.

A lot of the content that we communicate with others is done through gestures and body movements. Spoken words are less essential to communicate with others than we think.

Use appropriate body language and facial expressions to support your message, and to get your point across.

    Show empathy.

Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. It’s what makes us human, and what allows us to relate to one another. It lets us build meaningful relationships that can last a lifetime.

Show empathy by acknowledging the other person’s feelings and validating their perspective.

    Be open-minded.

Just because we think we know something doesn’t mean we’re automatically right. Always consider the possibility that we might be wrong, that we have an incomplete perspective, or that we can learn something new.

Be willing to consider other viewpoints and ideas. Avoid dismissing or disregarding the opinions of others.

    Practice active engagement.

Engage in active dialogue by asking questions, sharing your ideas and opinions, and providing feedback on their point of view.

This will make the conversation run much smoother, and it shows that you’re interested in learning new things. This way, you can both gain a new, and better understanding of the world.

  7. Develop your personality

Cultivate interests, hobbies, and skills that make you unique and interesting. People are often attracted to those who are enthusiastic about something, as it shows passion.

This is how you develop your personality:

    Know yourself.

Understanding your values, beliefs, interests, and personality traits is the first step toward developing your personality.

Be introspective, and go through many new life experiences, so you can gain insight into your strengths and weaknesses.

It’ll come in handy to find out what your weak spots are, and what you consequently should improve. Simultaneously, it’ll allow you to play to your strengths, which is something that you absolutely should do to become thriving.

    Identify areas for improvement.

Identify areas you would like, or need to improve upon, such as communication skills, assertiveness, or emotional intelligence.

Set, and write down your goals, and create an action plan to improve these matters.

    Be open to learning.

Always be curious and open to learning new things. Read books, take courses, attend workshops, and listen to podcasts to expand your overall knowledge and skill set.

Life’s too short to know it all. And that means that you should be constantly acquiring new information to stay ahead of the game and the players in it.

    Practice self-reflection.

Regularly reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, so you can identify patterns and areas for improvement.

Keeping a journal to track your progress is good since it gives you visual feedback about how you’re doing. It’s objective, instead of having to rely on how you feel you’re doing, which is too subjective to achieve success. Measuring is knowing.

    Cultivate positive habits.

Life is all about creating good, purposeful routines if we want to achieve something of value. Without them, we’re lost in the dark.

Develop positive habits that support your growth and development, such as exercising, meditating, and journaling. These habits can improve your physical and mental health and help you develop a positive mindset.

    Build relationships.

Building positive relationships with others will make you appear more appealing to others since you have a heightened social status, and more connections to interact with. Thus, you have access to a larger pool of people to talk to, and date with.

Surround yourself with supportive and encouraging people who share your interests and values. Participate in social activities that help you meet new people.

Final note

Image of the word, “conclusions” written on a black backboard with white chalk.

Everyone has unique qualities and beautiful characteristics, so it’s important to focus on developing your strengths and being confident in who you are.

Nevertheless, it makes sense to ‘optimize’ what mother nature gave you. And that’s why you need to know how to make yourself look more attractive.

You should make it a point to control the aspects of your existence that you can influence such as maintaining a healthy weight, getting a nice haircut, remaining well-groomed, and working out to gain some muscle mass.

But keep in mind that nobody is perfect. We all have our insecurities and imperfections. But that’s also part of the beauty, as we need to learn to embrace who we are.
